My Interdisciplinary Teaching Philosophy

 

Interdisciplinary teaching is shown to create more engagement in students. This interest can spread to learning in all subject areas. It is natural to teach subjects together since real world careers and jobs use knowledge from all subject areas to complete tasks. Explaining the larger picture rather than parts allows students to connect ideas to their life. I believe in students learning through investigation and inquiry with teacher help. This leads to less lectures and more discussions in my classroom. The classroom should feel like a community exploring the world around us and what has led to our current knowledge.
