This unit will take 5-6 weeks to complete and will assess students:

  • weekly with short answer and fill in the blank individual quizzes

    • ​What is a star? 

    • _____________ is the hottest star.

    • _____________ is the largest star. 

    • What do stars provide?

  • a group jigsaw with presentation on stars and types

    • ​example in video below

  • science response journal notes will be graded throughout the unit

  • a constellation collection will be created at the end of the unit individually

    • ​potential display shown below

  • a Model Eliciting Activity that will be individually graded at the end of the unit

Below is an example of sewing constellations. Students will create their own constellations and then use yarn and a plastic needle to show the image from the stars. The students will create a mythology around their image and then describe one of the stars including its color, lumosity, and heat.
